Christine Skow
Christine Skow is a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa. She received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Ball State University. Christine has received clinical training at UI Counseling Service and at the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Wayne, IN.
Christine's approach to therapy prioritizes ensuring that clients feel comfortable and supported in the counseling setting, and then working with clients to set clear goals and determine a plan for achieving them. Clients are viewed as experts on themselves who are powerful and fully capable of the change necessary to achieve the goals they set for themselves. Christine's intention is to foster an unconditionally supportive, warm, non-judgmental and non-achievement focused environment in which clients can feel safe to explore themselves and their situation in-depth and to take the steps/risks necessary for change. At times through the relationship, Christine will ask clients to determine whether they would like to try some empirically supported techniques for moving them toward their goals.
Christine is open to working with a very wide variety of clients and concerns. Her particular clinical interests include anxiety (general or specific), relationship concerns, and trauma-related concerns. Christine enjoys using mindfulness meditation with clients who are interested and who would benefit from such work.
