The Film & Discussion Series is an effort developed by current WRAC volunteers interested in how media portrays diversity including race, ethnicity, gender, disability, and other forms of oppression. The films often challenge the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of diversity while the discussion moves from a focus on experiences with these socially constructed messages to active steps we can take to address this disparity in our own lives and in society. Although mainstream media contributes to the miss representation of diverse individuals, we don't have to. We can raise our own awareness of these issues and become empowered to change these messages in some way.
