The Men's Anti-Violence Council (MAC) is an opportunity for men to become actively involved in anti-violence work. Men can send a powerful message about what is acceptable in our community by publicly working to prevent violence or they can choose to remain silent and idle. The MAC approach seeks to empower and educate men about what concrete actions they can engage in to prevent violence against women. MAC training involves exploring bystander interventions, examining and redefining masculinity, discussing gender violence, and creating a plan for taking action. MAC members will work to fulfill MAC's goals of personal change as well as community change. Personal change occurs by examining personal motivations, beliefs, and behaviors concerning violence against women and making changes. Weekly meetings offer support to men who are taking action and making changes in their lives and provides time to plan for community change. MAC members will plan and implement numerous community change projects throughout the year to raise awareness about male violence toward women. By workng with other men and becoming allies with women, MAC members set a positive example for men and boys in their life and work toward creating a safer community for everyone. |
