WRAC's Annual Spaghetti Dinner

WRAC sponsors a wide range of educational programming events throughout the year -- from large events such as the annual Iowa Women's Music Festival each September and conferences in April on race, privilege and cultural competency... to smaller, more intimate discussions as well as skill-building workshops and thought-provoking lectures/presentations.

This presentation interposes irreverent humor with unpleasant reality. Mr. Katz will help stimulate dialogue between the sexes by helping to illuminate how the problems of individual women and men are linked to learger social forces. The presentation is designed for college students, high-school varsity athletes and their coaches, and members of youth leadership organizations.

Jackson Katz

Jackson Katz, Ed. M., is an internationally recognized author and filmmaker, known for his ground-breaking work in the field of gender violence prevention education with men and boys. He is the co-founder of the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program, the leading gender violence prevention program in professional and college athletics. He is the creator of educational videos including Tough Guise: Violence, Media, and the Crisis in Masculinity (2000), Wrestling with Manhood (2002), and Spin the Bottle: Sex, Lies, and Alcohol (2004). His book, The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help, was published in 2006.

An Intensive Mini-Conference with Dr. Sherry Watt and Suzanne Pharr

 

WRAC created Race, Privlege and Cultural Competence in 2006 as a response to the race and class inequities made clear in the light of Hurricane Katrina. It is designed to encourage both critical reflection and action, and is open to everyone who wants to do the work to make social change possible.
