The Margaret P. Benson Memorial Scholarship recognizes qualified female applicants who demonstrate financial need and are committed to women’s issues, diversity, and social activism. One or two awards are available each year. Awards generally range from $1000 to $2000 per academic year to be applied toward tuition, fees, living expenses, or books. A $2,000 scholarship is available annually to a University of Iowa Ph.D. candidate whose dissertation focuses on issues pertaining to women and who has demonstrated commitment to women’s issues through activism in the University and larger community. The selection committee is facilitated by the Women’s Resource and Action Center and the Department of Women’s Studies. Nomination Deadline: March 7, 2008
This award honors a student, staff, or faculty member at The University of Iowa who has demonstrated outstanding effort or achievement in improving the status of women at the University of Iowa. The criteria for selecting the awardees are a strong record of support for women’s rights in a board sense, a commitment to women’s rights at The University of Iowa and one or more of the following related to women’s rights: particular contributions to the University of Iowa, accomplishments with national scope or impact, a long-standing record of leadership, effort and activism.
