These poems come from an improvisation born in the International Writing Program's translation workshop. Doris chose one of Katherine's poems to be translated into Estonian, because it reminded her of the pagan tradition still alive in her country. On Midsummer Night – when it never gets dark – young couples depart into the forest to find the “fern’s flower.” Katherine was fascinated to learn about it and encouraged Doris to write something on the same theme. Doris did so, and after some intense work the two poems are now available in both Estonian and English.
